Directors' and Officers' Liability

What is it?

Directors’ and Officers’ Liability cover insures you against claims made against individuals in the course of their work. It also indemnifies you against the actions of your fellow directors. It may be taken out by the employer or as a director you may choose to arrange the insurance yourself, particularly if you hold more than one directorship.

Who needs it?

As a director of a company your liability is potentially unlimited. Any director of an organisation, whether in an executive or non-executive role, can be left with a massive penalty if, for example, they are found guilty of corporate manslaughter.

What does it cover?

Directors’ and Officers’ liability insurance does not cover actions that the named insured knows to be wrong or illegal. It covers the consequences of actions that were taken in good faith but that led to legal action against them or their company.

What having Directors’ and Officers’ Liability cover means to you

As a director having this insurance provides the peace of mind in knowing that you are protected against potentially devastating financial claims. As an employer you can rest assured that by providing cover for your officers they are protected from such claims.
